Full Vinyl Jacket

Michael Lau SK3 SetNingyoushi has got the new goods from probably my favorite vinyl artist, Michael Lau, in stock. The Limited Ed. SK3 Set is Lau's homage to Stanley Kubrick, one of my favorite directors of all time. I remember staying up late Friday nights to watch A Clockwork Orange on Skinemax. A bit of the old ultraviolence for little Alec. And who doesn't remember the first time they saw 2001: A Space Odyssey all fucked-up on acid? Actually, who does remember that? I sure don't. Or in Full Metal Jacket when Gomer Pyle blows his brains out. I didn't see that one coming. Anyway, these new figures from Michael Lau are pretty sick, and only $285 for the set of all three. Not too bad for Lau's work. Out of my price range right now, though, with just having gotten a job and having to pay for a trip to Delaware for my parents' 40th wedding anniversary and all. 40 years, who would have thought? And 2001 was their first movie date. Isn't that precious.

Update: The red/silver version of 2bb1 is out of stock at Ningyoushi, they are now only shipping the blue [pictured above], yellow or green versions.

It's Full Of Stars

Michael Lau CSBOOTH15 049 JordanI was surfing over at Hypebeast for some reason today and noticed that Michael Lau has an upcoming exhibit, cleverly titled CSBOOTH15 coming up. Included in the previews for the release are vinyl versions of Lau's 049 Jordan figure [pictured above], a 2001: a Space Odyssey-inspired figure entitled 2bb1 [below] and another Kubrick-inspired figure, this one from A Clockwork Orange, entitled Black White Orange [bottom].
Michael Lau CSBOOTH15 2bb1These are some pretty sweet new figures. I was wondering when Lau would get back on track and present some figures worth adding to the ol' collection. I especially like the two Kubrick-inspired figures, because he is one of my favorite directors and A Clockwork Orange and 2001: a Space Odyssey are two of my favorite movies. I hope these find their way to our shores soon, and there are enough of them to go around. More on prices and availability when i find that shit out. Anyway, the show will go on July 5th and 6th at Michael Gallery in Hong Kong. The address is below.

He's Back

Well, Michael Lau is finally back with some new figures after the disappointing Mr. Shoe series. At least I thought they were disappointing, maybe some people thought they were cool. I thought they were just poorly sculpted shoes with even worse sculpted feet and a baseball cap. Nothing to write home about. I am much more of a fan of his 6" Gardener series. Which is a good thing, because he just released a bunch of new ones and Ningyoushi has them available to purchase. I'm not sure if Ningyoushi has all of the new releases because I haven't seen a complete list, but they do have DJ Tomy, Lazy DJ Tomy [pictured top row, left to right], Prodig, Young Prodig, and Lazy Prodig [second row, left to right]. How come all the lazy Gardeners gotta' be black, huh? Do Chinese people think all black people are lazy or is it just Michael Lau? Anyway, that is something that can be discussed later. For now, I just have to figure out how to get $190 without doing anything so I can pick up a DJ Tomy and Prodig figure. Those are my two favorites.
