The Graffiti Project

Graffiti Art ProjectRipped from the headlines of Cool Hunting: The Graffiti Project at Kelburn Castle in rural Scotland. Beginning on May 12th, four of the greatest Brazilian street artists (the twins known as Os Gemeos, Nina Pandolfo and Nunca) will be creating a large-scale, one-off piece of collaborative outdoor mural art on the side of the castle. The artists will live together for one month while working on the project. By taking "street art" out of its usual urban context and applying it to the historic walls of a rural Scottish castle, the artists hope to challenge the public's understanding of the "high art vs. low art" debate.

Custom Zliks At My Plastic Heart

Atomic Explorer ZlikVicarious Vegetation ZlikForgotten Hero Zlik

Well, apparently the Attack of the 19-inch Zliks exhibit at My Plastic Heart was a success last Friday, so they are offering up some of the goodies from the show for sale. There are several custom, hand-made 19-inch Zliks available for sale here. Some of them have already sold out, but there are several still available, and if you can't afford the ridiculously expensive price tags, you can always pick up a copy of the Limited Ed. 18" x 24" poster from the exhibit for only eighteen bucks. You better hurry, though, because there are only 100 copies of the poster available. In terms of the custom 19-inch Zliks still available, my favorite is the Atomic Explorer by Brian Taylor [pictured above, left]. It is $1,500, though, which is way, way, way out of my price range. My favorite that has already been sold is Vicarious Vegetation by Cameron Tiede [pictured above, center]. It is one of the finest crafted pieces from the exhibit. I am also quite fond of Forgotten Hero by Jester [pictured above, right] for its resemblance to a World War II Curtiss P-40 aircraft, its use of graffiti and the inclusion of rust as one of the components of its construction. It is still available for the low, low price of only $850.00! Cheap!

They've Done It Again

Shinshoku Watch
Tokyoflash is up to their old tricks again, releasing a completely illegible watch, this time to coincide with an update to their website. Their website is a little cleaner, a little faster and hopefully a lot easier to use. I think it looks very nice and clean. Anyway, back to the important stuff, the new watch is called Shinshoku and is a uni-band style LED watch. It features a continuous stainless steel band that wraps around your wrist with a matrix of punched out holes. Beneath the surface are 29 super bright LED's which illuminate to indicate the time. There are three styles available; one with multi-colored LED's, one with green LED's and one with red LED's. Here's what Tokyoflash has to say about it:
The watch's LED's animate in a cascade effect when showing the time. (Button B skips the animation & jumps straight to the time)

On the multi-color LED model the red lights (12) indicate the hour, the green (3) indicate 15 minutes each & the Yellow (14) are 1 minute each. By telling the time in this way it makes it very easy to see if its roughly quarter-past, half-past or quarter-to the hour. With each green LED worth 15 mins; then 2 lit equals 30 mins.
(The time on the watch image above is 9:37)
That makes sense, right? Anyway, this nice piece of wrist weight will run you $114.05, but it is definitely worth it for all of the attention you will receive. And remember, free shipping on all orders over ¥10,000!

Bar Fight!

I know I haven't posted anything in over a week now, but I have been busy working on two websites and trying to figure out what to get for my sister who has everything for her birthday (a boyfriend, maybe?). Anyway, to tide y'all over until I find something for Leia or something to blog about, here's the bar fight scene from Rainy Storm 2: Thunderstruck. Enjoy!

Sneakerplay Air Force 1 Winners Announced

Sneakerplay AF1 Contest WinnersWell, the Sneakerplay Air Force 1 Contest Winners have been announced, and unfortunately I was not among them. There was a girl from Durham, though, so that's cool. Surprisingly, I find the winning designs a little boring; I think subtlety was what the judges were looking for with this competition.

For some reason, I have serious disdain for the second place design. Basing it on the wool Starter cap version of a school's colors just seems so unoriginal and lame.

Of all the winners, I probably like Roxfontaine's third place design, Goldfinger, the best. It is classy and sophisticated, and I would definitely wear them.

Of course, all participants will get the opportunity to purchase their own designs, because Sneakerplay and Nike have graciously allowed all participants access to the AF1 design studio on Nike iD with special passcodes.

Happy Friday PaloozaHead!

Check out my fancy-dancing little doppelganger. You can create your own PaloozaHead or just visit Lollapalooza.com to get more information on the event, taking place August 3-5 this year. It makes me feel old to think back on the very first Lollapalooza, which I attended way back in 1991. I remember being so excited to see Jane's Addiction, Ice-T and Body Count, and the Butthole Surfers that I didn't even care that my friend sold me a bag of oregano for the show. It didn't get me high, but I enjoyed the show regardless. Now Lollapalooza has gotten so big it cannot be contained in a single day. It can be contained in a single city, however, as it is no longer a traveling festival but centered in Grant Park in Chicago instead. Oh well, I can't afford the $195 ticket price anyway. Not to mention, I'm getting too old for this shit.

Ape Must Not Kill Ape

Winson Ma ApexplorerCheck out the new Limited Ed. Apexplorer figure [pictured, right] from Hot Toys and Winson Ma, available right now over at Kidrobot. This is one sweet, furry 12-and-a-half-inch figure (the toy, not me).
Assigned to Earth by a remote Simian government from another galaxy, the Apexplorers are planet Earth's last chance for self-preservation. In 2106, the ecology of the planet has been badly destroyed and most of the population have fled in exile to nearby Mars. However, a group of stalwart inhabitants insist on staying and giving their last breath if needed to save the planet. The Apexplorers share the common hope of resurrecting Earth's environment and intend on using their millennium old mystical talents to aid the remaining humans left behind.
This extra-tall figure, created in conjunction with Canon, comes with a slew of accessories including a wide range of exploration gear and a scale model Canon EOS camera. The price is a little steep, at $229.95, which is the only thing keeping me from hitting the big, shiny, pink "Buy" button on the Kidrobot website. Otherwise, this hairy fellow would be joining the rest of my 12-inch figures on the shelf in my dining room.

Ahhh... Youthful Indiscretion

The Project: Gallery in LA will be featuring the work of some fresh-faced, up-and-coming artists in their new Artists on the Rise exhibit, Youthful Indiscretions, opening this Saturday, April 14th, from 7-11pm. The exhibit features the work of Derek Albeck, Rebecca Urias, Nate Frizzell and Edwin Ushiro. So, if you find yourself in LA this weekend, be sure to check out the show. I'm sure you will see something you like. I know I have.

Sneakerplay Top 100!

One of my favorite sneaker resources, the shoe community known as Sneakerplay, has been hosting a Nike Air Force 1 design contest for the past month. If you hadn't noticed, I have an annoying little animated link to it on the right side of my blog under the ad for Action HQ. Well, the first round of judging has ended, the entries have been whittled down to the top 100, and guess who made the cut? That's right, your very own Limited Ed. with a design that I call Strawberry Cough [pictured, left]. It's inspired by one of the best movies of last year and one of my favorite movies of all time: Children of Men. If you haven't seen the movie, I won't give it away for you, all I will say is, "Take a big hit, then cough. What do you taste? Strawberries, right?" Anyway, if you are a member of Sneakerplay, or maybe just know one, point them in the direction of my design and give it a big, fat 5 on the voting scale. If I score high enough, I get a free pair of my design. And if I win, I pass the savings on to you, the consumer, and then we all win! Thanks for your vote!

My Man Clyde!

Crooked Tongues ClydesCheck out these sweet-ass Limited Ed. Clydes from Crooked Tongues [pictured, right]. Only 300 pairs available, some sizes have already sold out. Brings me back to '76, when I was a wee lad of two, and everyone and their mother was wearing these bad bitches with their 'froed-out dos and big ol' bells. Damn! With the fat laces, too. Hot shit! They'll cost you £75 plus shipping, not cheap. But you are assured that they will look fly during the long, hot summer months and you will be the only kid on the block rockin' them, just like Clyde back in the day.
